Unleashing Peak Performance: The Power of 7075 Aluminium Plate

In the relentless pursuit of strength, durability, and lightweight design, materials science continually pushes boundaries. At the vanguard of this evolution stands the 7000 Series Aluminium Plate, specifically the remarkable 7075 alloy. It's not just metal; it's the very backbone of critical components where failure is simply not an option. From the roaring engines of aerospace to the intricate mechanisms of precision machinery, 7075 aluminium offers an unparalleled combination of properties that redefine what's possible.

Known for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, 7075 aluminium is the alloy of choice for engineers and manufacturers demanding the ultimate in material performance. Its unique composition, primarily aluminium with zinc as the main alloying element, along with magnesium and copper, enables it to achieve mechanical properties typically associated with steel, yet retaining the inherent advantages of aluminium's lightness and corrosion resistance. When every gram counts, and every movement demands absolute reliability, 7075 stands as the undisputed champion.

Why 7075 Aluminium Plate is the Industry Benchmark

Unrivaled Mechanical Prowess

The true testament to 7075's superiority lies in its robust mechanical properties. Engineered to endure extreme stresses and demanding environments, it consistently outperforms other aluminium alloys. With a tensile strength exceeding 540 MPa and a yield strength greater than 480 MPa, 7075 can withstand immense forces without deforming. Its hardness of 150 HB further ensures exceptional wear resistance, making it ideal for dynamic applications. This formidable strength means components can be designed lighter and more efficiently, directly translating to enhanced performance and fuel efficiency in applications like aircraft and missiles.

Tailored for Performance: Versatile Temper Options

Beyond its raw strength, 7075 aluminium offers adaptability through various temper designations, allowing for precise customization to suit diverse application requirements.

  • Temper O (Annealed): Offers maximum ductility for forming and bending operations before heat treatment.
  • Temper T6: Achieved through solution heat treatment and artificial aging, delivering the highest strength and hardness.
  • Temper T651: Similar to T6, but with an additional stress-relief stretching process after heat treatment, minimizing internal stresses and improving dimensional stability, crucial for precision machining. These options ensure that whether your project demands maximum formability or ultimate strength and dimensional integrity, there is a 7075 temper perfectly suited to your needs.

Precision and Versatility for Critical Applications

7075 Aluminium Plate is renowned for its critical role in high-stakes industries where precision, high strength, and reliability are paramount. It is the material of choice for:

  • Aerospace & Aircraft: Integral to aircraft fittings, fuselage parts, landing gear components, and structural elements, contributing to both safety and performance.
  • Defense & Missiles: Used in missile components and defense systems where lightweight strength and resilience are non-negotiable.
  • Automotive & Motorsports: Employed in high-performance racing components where weight reduction and extreme strength are competitive advantages.
  • Industrial Gears & Shafts: Its high strength and hardness make it excellent for gears, shafts, and other crucial mechanical parts that undergo significant wear and stress.
  • Regulating Valves & Keys: Utilized in complex machinery where precise, durable components are essential for optimal operation.

Precision Dimensions for Every Need

Understanding that every project has unique dimensional requirements, 7075 Aluminium Plate is available in a comprehensive range of sizes. This ensures that manufacturers can source the exact material needed, minimizing waste and optimizing production processes.

More Information
The 7075 aluminium plate is a very strong grade of metal. It is well-known for its toughness, which is why it’s frequently used in aerospace and aviation applications. It has excellent weight-to-strength ration, making it ideal for highly stressed parts. When in the annealed condition, forming can be performed, which should be followed by heat treatment. 7075 aluminium is considered to be strong for aluminium. While forming this alloy, it has greater springback. If forming this metal while in the annealed condition becomes difficult, it can be placed in heat between 200 and 250 degrees F to soften it. To make this alloy have high-strength capabilities, heat treating can be used. It also has excellent properties when in low temperatures. The conductivity to electricity of this metal is 36 percent of copper.

The strength measurements of this metal are as follows: 83,000 psi tensile strength, 48,000 psi shear strength and 73,000 psi shear strength. Due to this metal’s excellent ratio for weight-to-strength, it can be used in applications involving structural parts that are highly stressed. High stress applications that frequently use this grade of aluminium include aircraft fittings, missile parts, regulating valve parts, meter gears, fuse parts, worm gears and keys. It’s a popular choice for use in applications in commercial aircraft components and aerospace and defense equipment. The plastics industry also uses this alloy as a mold material.

The weldability of this metal is low, but the formability is great. When forging is used, it’s required that the alloy be placed in temperatures between 700 and 900 degrees F. Afterwards, solution heat treatment should be used.

The available sizes for the 7075 aluminium plate are between .25 and 8 inches thick, 48.5 and 60.5 inches wide and up to 144.5 inches long.
